Welcome to the TIAH Capability Framework

Welcome to the TIAH Capability Framework

A capability framework is a helpful tool that lists the skills and knowledge you need to work in your industry.

We're working with the agriculture and horticulture industry to develop a Capability Framework specifically for farming and growing.

It lists the skills and knowledge you need for working with livestock, arable, or horticulture. It also describes the business, people, environment, and leadership skills you need for a successful business.

The framework has been created to support you so you can make the most of your skills and career.

To navigate the framework, simply click on the section you're interested in on the graphic, the sector-specific competencies (shown in the light blue area of the graphic), the core competencies (the pink area) or the behaviours (the dark blue section).

Let us know what you think

As part of our beta testing, we're asking you to help guide our development by having your say in our survey.

We suggest watching the recorded webinar and reading the Capability Framework pages before answering the survey.

Using the framework

You can use it to understand what skills and knowledge you already have, and how you may want to develop them for the role you work in. This is often called Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and it can help you:

  • Recognise your skills
  • Understand what skills and knowledge are needed in your role
  • Figure out any gaps in your skills and knowledge
  • Help you learn and develop
  • Help you progress in your career

How the framework helps you

As a member of TIAH, you have full access to this online tool. As you work through it, it will suggest and direct you to any CPD opportunities that are relevant to you.

We'll continue to develop the Capability Framework as ways of farming change so it stays relevant to you and your role.

The TIAH Capability Framework has three levels.

Take a look at the descriptions below and choose which is most relevant to you.

Capability framework key

TIAH's Capability Framework uses the following terminology:

Capability: The ability to do something, to execute a specified course of action or to achieve certain outcomes.

Competency: The necessary ability, knowledge or skill to do something successfully.

Core competency: The necessary ability, knowledge or skill to do something successfully no matter what area of agriculture or horticulture you work in.

Skill: An ability to do an activity or job well, developed through training and/or experience.

Knowledge: Understanding of, or information about, a subject developed through experience or study.

Behaviours: The soft skills concerning how you work with others and the attitudes you need to help you work successfully within your role.

All together they give you the tools to be successful in your role and help you know where you need or want to develop.

We've also prepared job competency documents. These tie in with our Job profiles and the Capability Framework, and can help you with recruitment or when searching for a job.

Sector-specific competencies
