Our Chief Executive, Janet Swadling OBE, was invited to take part in the special food summit alongside other key industry representatives. Janet spoke about the importance of skills development and fostering new talent in the agriculture and horticulture industries.

In its policy paper published following the event, the Prime Minister’s office and Defra stated: “We want to encourage more people to take up farming and food sector roles and invest in future technology. The Institute for Agriculture and Horticulture (TIAH) will be officially launched later this year, strengthening support for skills and careers across the agriculture and horticulture sectors.

“We want to make farming an attractive career choice, and we're currently concluding the pilot phase of new ways to support new entrants and those looking to scale up their farming businesses to develop the skills needed to be a successful farming entrepreneur.”

Janet said: “The government's encouraging response demonstrates its commitment to promoting skills and careers in farming and the food sector, as well as investing in cutting-edge technologies to support productive, profitable and sustainable food production.

“TIAH aims to build on this support, working with industry partners to develop activities to improve skills, careers, and professionalism in farming and growing. We are dedicated to bridging the skills gap, nurturing emerging talent, supporting new entrants, and helping farmers and growers embrace innovation to secure the future of food production. ”
